Yacht vs Catamaran in Goa
Which One is Right for You?

By Brian Fernandes, Privé Luxury Yachts  ·  April 2026  ·  6 min read

Choose a yacht for something intimate and swanky — a date, a family sunset, a proposal, anything where the evening needs to feel personal. Choose a catamaran for a party, a corporate event, or any occasion where you need space, a dance floor, and a buffet.

A rough rule from our own bookings: groups under 15 guests almost always lean yacht. Groups over 20 almost always lean catamaran. The 15–20 zone is a coin flip — the occasion decides, not the headcount. Simplest way to think about it: if you want to relax and feel like a king for an evening, yacht. If you want to let loose with your people, catamaran.

The technical difference, for the curious: a yacht has a single hull, a catamaran has two. That's where everything else — the lean, the stability, the mood — comes from. Think of it like standing on one leg versus two, or a bike versus a car. The yacht cuts through the water with that unmistakable lean. The catamaran is flat, wide, and stable. One gives “elite”. The other gives floating party vibes.

So Which One Should You Actually Book?

The Yacht — for when it matters

Cutting through the water at golden hour — pure yacht.

Take your family out on the Majesty on a clear evening. You leave Britona, cross under the Panjim bridge, hit the open sea near Miramar. Dolphins show up — they usually do. Maybe some jellyfish in the deeper water. If you've booked a longer charter, there's deep sea fishing on the way toward Fort Aguada.

Your parents are watching the sun go down over the Arabian Sea with a drink in hand. Your kids are losing their minds over the dolphins. You've got a drone capturing all of it from above. That video is going to live on your phone — and your Instagram — for a very long time.

That's what a yacht does. It's intimate. The boat is small enough to feel like yours for the evening, the crew knows everyone's name, and the water feels like it's been cleared for you. That's one kind of evening. The catamaran gives you a different one.

The Catamaran — let's make some noise for the desi boys

Flat deck, wide open, built for the crowd.

The catamaran is a different beast entirely. Flat deck. Wide. Stable. Lots of room to move around — or more accurately, lots of room to dance, drink, eat, and generally cause a scene in the best possible way.

This is the corporate R&R vessel. The birthday bash with 40 people. The bachelorette that starts civilised and ends legendary. Full bar, full catering, DJ, live performers, musicians — you can fit all of it on a catamaran without it feeling cramped. It's less quaint and more... a swanky party in the sea.

If a yacht is a fine dining restaurant, a catamaran is the best rooftop bar you've ever been to. Both excellent. Completely different vibes.

What Do Most People Get Wrong About Yacht vs Catamaran?

It's not a grave mistake if you pick one over the other — the sea is still beautiful either way. But here's the practical stuff nobody tells you.

If your group has older guests — parents, grandparents, anyone who isn't exactly steady on their feet — go catamaran. The stability is in a different league. A yacht has that lean and rock to it that's thrilling when you're 28 and on your third cocktail, but less ideal for someone whose investments are all in FDs and whose knees have opinions.

The catamaran keeps everyone comfortable, on their feet, and actually enjoying themselves rather than gripping the railing.

On the flip side — if you're getting a drone, do it on a yacht. Seriously.

A yacht drone video from above, golden hour, cutting through the Mandovi toward the sea — that's content that doesn't age. You'll be showing that reel to people five years from now. The catamaran drone video is good. The yacht drone video is a different category.

And then there's the oomph factor. A yacht has an association with a certain kind of life — aspirational, elite, the kind of thing that makes people pause on your Instagram and wonder what you're doing with yourself. That's not nothing.

How Privé Figures It Out For You

It's not rocket science. Maybe boat science — but not rocket science.

Here's the thing about Privé: we don't own boats. We probably never will — though never say never. What we own is the understanding of what actually makes an experience work for a specific group of people on a specific occasion.

We're empaths by profession. One conversation and we'll know whether you need a yacht or a catamaran — based on your group size, who's coming, what you're celebrating, and what kind of evening you're actually trying to create. Not what sounds good on paper. What's actually going to work.

You've seen the videos. You've seen what happens when it all comes together.

So just say hi. We'll handle the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

A yacht has a single hull and feels more sleek and intimate — it leans and moves with the water. A catamaran has two hulls and a flat, spacious deck — much more stable and better suited to larger groups and parties.

For a smaller family looking for an intimate, memorable experience — dolphins, deep sea, golden hour — a yacht is the better choice. If the family includes older members who'd prefer a more stable, comfortable ride, a catamaran is the safer and more practical option.

Catamaran, without question. The flat deck, the space, the stability — it's built for groups. You can fit a DJ, a full bar, live performers, and a catering spread without anyone feeling cramped.

Yacht, every time. The silhouette, the movement through the water, the golden hour backdrop — a yacht drone video is a different level of content. If you're getting a drone, make it count.

Yachts in Goa start at around ₹12,000 for smaller vessels and go up to ₹60,000 for larger luxury options. Catamarans vary based on size and capacity — they're generally suited to larger groups and priced accordingly. See the full pricing guide.
